Rohingya Walking

One year ago, 12,000 Burmese soldiers descended on Rohingya neighborhoods in Burma.

What followed was a brutal wave of state-sponsored terror, explicitly aimed at driving the Rohingya out of the country. To briefly recap the events of August, 2017: the Burmese army carved a vicious, bloody path of murder and sexual assault through Rakhine State, driving out 700,000 Rohingya Muslims and killing at least 30,000. Now 1.1 million Rohingya refugees languish in stateless limbo across the sprawling camps of southeastern Bangladesh.

We are now approaching the one-year anniversary of this shocking crime, yet the Rohingya remain trapped in the refugee camps of Bangladesh, cut off from their homeland. The remaining 480,000 Rohingya in Burma are increasingly isolated by the military, cut off from vital supplies and deprived of their basic rights of movement, worship, and citizenship.
