Burma Task Force continues to advocate for Rohingya education

At last week’s Migration Forum at the UN, Burma Task Force continued to bring up the lack of educational access and other basic rights. Despite the recent visit of Flippo Grandi, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, also taking place last week, it is unclear if Bangladesh government policies will improve. We are asking Congress to put pressure on our government to push more.

While fatal rainstorms and floods have affected many Bangladeshis along the coast, many Rohingya refugee homes and shelters in the camps have also received wind damage. Authorities continue to promote resettlement in Bhasan Char, and to arrest Rohingya who have escaped India or who try to escape to Malaysia.

In Burma, former prisoners report that torture and abuse are extrely widespread. Meanwhile, conditions in Rakhine State remain miserable, and Rohingya families fleeing by boat have recently perished at sea.
