Burmese Military Prepares to Fight International Courts, Ignore Legal Summons
With hearings on the Rohingya genocide set to start February 21, the Burmese military has instructed all military personnel not to answer letters related to arrest warrants or summons from the International Criminal Court (ICC) or the Argentinian judiciary.
Statistics: The Burmese military continues to escalate its bombing and killing campaigns in Burma’s southwest, with over 200,000 displaced from the region and nearly 800 buildings burned.
Action: Meanwhile the Prime Minister of Japan has praised the recent visit of the Cambodian Prime Minister to Burma as resulting in an “extended ceasefire.” This absurd and insensitive statement denies the evidence of violent escalation. Japanese policy towards Burma has been extremely disappointing, based only on maximizing profit making opportunities. Japanese officials will not even use the word “Rohingya.”
