
ASEAN: Where Will the Humanitarian Millions Really Go?

In Bangladesh, the authorities continue to restrict basic Rohingya rights in the camps, with hundreds of youth arrested during Eid. The ABPN police force have even been beating Rohingya women. This is not the first time that major problems have occurred with the local police, and yet the pattern continues.
In Washington DC, the ASEAN meeting on May 12 and 13 excluded the Burmese military junta, and the US State Department spokesman admitted that the ASEAN five point peace plan was failing. Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman met with representatives of the National Unity Government. However, just before the meeting, ASEAN decided on a very bad plan to distribute humanitarian aid through the Burmese military government, instead of in partnership with diverse ethnic groups across borders. Burma Task Force joined many civil society and human rights groups who have complained. Please speak out:
