Burma Task Force convenes meeting with UN Envoy Christine Schraner Burgener

On August 13, 2021, Burma Task Force convened a zoom meeting with UN Special Envoy Christine Schraner Burgener, bringing Rohingya leaders, ethnic communities and democracy activists together.
Participants engaged in a rich discussion of the many challenges faced by the diverse people of Burma/Myanmar. The Special Envoy was appointed by the UN Secretary General in early 2018 and had been working closely with State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi to convince her to rescind citizenship laws targeting the Rohingya. The military coup has apparently erased this potential for progress but she remains engaged with all players in the Security Council, ASEAN and in the international community. Participants pressed her to include the National Unity Government (NUG) as much as possible, and to strongly support Rohingya representation in the NUG.
