Hardline Monks Claim Victory As Muslim Rohingya Face Poll Exclusion

Perhaps the U.S. should rethink it’s self-acclaimed “diplomatic victory” in Myanmar.

      According to Mizzima, the instigators of the anti-Muslim campaign, radical Buddhist groups, are rejoicing over the fact that discriminating bills have been signed by the president and Rohingya Muslims have been excluded from the polls.

      U Wirathu, the main figure behind the anti-Muslim rage among Buddhists, “…claimed ‘victory’ for pressuring government to push controversial laws through parliament — which rights groups say discriminate against women and religious minorities — and helping to snatch voting rights from hundreds of thousands of Muslim Rohingya in strife-torn Rakhine state.”
