Despite decades of state sanctioned Islamophobic propaganda and attacks on the Rohingya community, there are…
In a new announcement, Aung San Suu Kyi has established an advisory commission to find lasting solutions to the issues affecting Rakhine state. In a welcome move she has appointed former UN Security-General Kofi Annan to head the commission. Kofi Annan has previously regretted that he was unable to halt the Rwandan genocide before it was too late, now he has an opportunity to halt the genocide against the Rohingya of Burma.
However, in a move that casts a cynical shadow over the purpose of forming the commission, Aung San Suu Kyi has handpicked a well-known genocidaire, Saw Khin Tint as an “eminent person” on panel headed by Kofi Annan. News Weekly, previously quoted Saw Khin Tint as expressing genocidal beliefs, saying, “Seeing their (all non-Rohingya natives of Myanmar) great anger and compassion, and hear them say, “We just want to go and kill all of those Bengali (the genocidal reference to the Rohingya) people with our own hands!” we’ve now got the advantage of gaining the support of all the national races all over Myanmar on the incidents that we’ve sacrificed so far.”
Dr. Maung Zarni also has published a full-text speech by Saw Khin Tint after two bouts of mass killings and destruction against the Rohingya in Rakhine state.
